Nine-Year-Old Creates New Hope through Original Art Design
For the past several years, Amoena has been inviting breast cancer survivors across
the nation to submit original artwork for it’s Breast Cancer Pin Design Contest. Each year, after Ameona’s selection
of five finalists. visitors to the company’s educational website, cast their votes for the winning design. The first
year’s theme was “Celebrate Life” in 2004.The
second year “Hope Blooms Again” and the third year’s was “Comfort Here”. “Hope Blooms Again”, 2005's
pin, was chosen after a week of online voting by 5000
visitors.
The winner was a 9-year breast cancer survivor. Once a
design has been selected, it is developed into a lapel pin. In this case an offset printed lapel pin, which
worked
perfectly for this design. Gradations and half tones are seamless, yet there is remarkable detail; eye lashes, wisps of hair,
ribbon on hat, the detailing inside
of the flowers. The lapel pin literally looks like a piece of art.
The lapel pins are then shipped to retailers of Amoena products, where pins go on sale
along with Amoena's other products. After the pins have been sold, the
net proceeds of each pin is donated to breast
cancer organizations chosen by Amoena Territory Managers across the country. The company's Marketing Manager is
quoted, "The company is thrilled to give back to organizations in local communities that Amoena serves. The Amoena
mission –“ helping women resume normal lives.” Approximately $19,000 was donated to eighteen organizations
as a result of the sale of this pin. The other awareness pins generated over $35,000 in donations. The contest, the design, the winner, the clarity, and relevance of the pin make for a perfect presentation.
This pin was also a winner of the Products PPAI’s Supplier Achievement
Award in the 2007 promotional products manufacturer's competition.
